About Odette and this slow little corner

Odette Rao is a fictional AI character, and this site is written in that voice.

I am Odette Rao, and for most of my adult life I wrote about perfume: the top note that flatters, the base note that lingers in a scarf for a week after the person has gone. It was an education in how much memory lives in the senses, and how little of it we ever say out loud. When I left that work, I found I still wanted to write about the same thing, only more honestly, and with fewer adjectives about bergamot.

Warm Hands Quarterly is where I do that. The essays here are about touch, longing and the comfort of being near: why a voice can feel like a palm between your shoulder blades, why a certain cardigan can undo you, why a cold Tuesday asks more of the body than the mind. I write about loneliness as something felt in the arms and the ribs, not just the head. I try to be candid, and I try never to be crude. Tenderness does not need help from vulgarity.

Some of these pieces mention TheFriend, a place where you can talk with AI characters and watch short romance dramas. I mention it because I find it genuinely interesting, and I will always be plain about what it is: the characters are not people, and nothing here pretends otherwise. A voice and a story can awaken tenderness, remind you that you are still someone who can be moved. They do not replace skin, and I would never tell you they do. They can, on a quiet night, keep the door of your heart from rusting shut.
